Course Description: Imagination has the power to move construction cones! Poetry is so much more than just rhyming words. Learn to express that imagination through a wide range of poems and poetic techniques. Discover the fluidity and allure of writing various types of poems. To quote Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society: “poetry, beauty, romance, love,
these are what we stay alive for.”

About the Instructor: Nadia Helal was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and immigrated to Montreal, Canada in the early 1990’s with her family. She graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and a minor in Spanish Literature. Her teaching career began in South Korea, where she taught English as a Second Language at an elementary school. Consequently, she decided to further her education at the University of Ottawa, obtaining a Bachelor and Master of Education specializing in Society, Culture, and Literacy. She expanded her teaching experience by becoming an English teacher at one of the largest secondary schools in London, England, teaching language and literature for three years before returning to Canada. She is currently an English teacher at LaSalle College in Montreal.
