Course Description: Learn guitar through some of your favourite songs! These lessons are intended for beginners, including people who have NEVER played the instrument before! The course will cover the fundamental pillars of guitar playing: rhythm (strumming chords), lead (playing melodies), improvising, and finger-picking. By the end of the course, you will be able to play some of your favorite pop/rock songs, play in small band settings, and gain the knowledge you need to continue growing your skills as a guitarist at your own pace! The lessons will be based around learning popular songs with all essential theories and techniques being taught through them. The instructor will go over key concepts for each skill with the entire class and then run group exercises to help you practice them. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get strumming!
About the Instructor: Albert Park is an intermediate guitarist who has been playing for around 10 years. He is a recent McGill graduate (Bachelor of Science). Albert took music and played in the school band during all four years of his high school as a trumpeter, and transitioned his focus to the guitar after he came to McGill. His main focus on the guitar is songwriting and improvising, and giving private lessons in his spare time. When he first started learning the guitar, he took 7 lessons and then taught himself using the internet. He believes that taking introductory courses with a real teacher is crucial to help students find the drive they need to keep learning an instrument. Playing the guitar has opened so many doors for him, such as being able to write his own music, perform in front of a crowd, sing along to his favorite tunes, and jam out with other musician friends! Partaking in these activities brings him more joy than anything else in the world, and he would want nothing more than to help others experience this joy as well!
