Course Description: Yoga is a comprehensive system that promotes self-regulation, rejuvenation, focus, clarity and deep relaxation. More than simply a fitness regimen, yoga encompasses ethical, physical and mental exercises aimed to relieve stress, calm the mind and bring the self into the present moment. Within yoga, all students are considered their own best teacher and the masters of their own practice. This series aims to start from the ground up and develop a deep understanding of core yoga asana for students to embody and use in their day to day lives. Students will be empowered to understand the importance of sequencing and the role of their creativity in the development of their own personal practice. Each class will be hatha (physically) focused, while touching on yoga philosophy, breathing exercises and meditation. Sequences will be developed from the needs of each student on each day. From this, participants will begin to understand how to take care of their physical, mental and emotional needs in an effective, positive and life-affirming way. By the end of the series students will be equipped with a set of tools to encourage self-directed routines ranging anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

About the Instructor: Kelly Davis in a visual & performing artist and yogi who originally hails from British Columbia, Canada. Her fascination with the mechanics of the human body has aided her exploration in multiple disciplines of yoga and meditation, professional-level training in acting and contemporary dance, as well as the study of diverse somatic practices such as Body-Mind Centering and Laban Movement Analysis. Kelly has been inspired by the power of the system of yoga to transform her own life, and its ability to heal past traumas, afflictions and addictions through consistent practice. Kelly has a passion for teaching and believes in the power of creative physical expression to self-heal and inspire people to live to their full potential. She encourages students to settle into themselves, and hear and experience the sensorial wisdom of their own body. Kelly strives to develop an accepting atmosphere that will stimulate and challenge students of all levels to work from a deeper place of healthy, integrated self-knowing. Her aim is to inspire students to be their own teacher, moving into a fuller expression of their physical, mental and emotional selves.
