Dates: February 6, 13, 20, 27 | March 13, 20, 27 | April 3 (Wednesdays)
Location: 3501 Peel Street, Montreal (Boardroom)
Course Description: Whether you are curious about learning a new language, want to converse with your Arabic-speaking friends, or may be visiting Egypt soon, this course will give you a solid base in the language that you can build from scratch. Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) is one of the most widely spoken and understood dialects of Arabic in the Arab world and Arabic media. We will cover basic grammar, vocabulary, expressions as well as cultural topics. Each course will give you an opportunity to practice conversing, and all vocabulary and grammar reviewed in the course will be reinforced and practiced in context. This class is open to very beginners and beyond, and will be very useful for anyone who is currently studying Modern Standard Arabic and wishes to study a regional dialect or learn the basics of 3amiyaa.
About the Instructor: Karen holds a Bachelors of Arts in Linguistics and Classics with a minor in Arabic (McGill University) and a Masters of Professional Studies in Arabic (University of Maryland in
partnership with the University of Alexandria). In fact, she first fell in love with Arabic language
over ten years ago in this very Mini Course program. Having taught the Modern Standard Arabic
course last year, Karen is proud to be offering the first conversational Arabic dialect
Mini Course, and hopes that her students will find learning the language more accessible, and
that they will be inspired to pursue it further. Karen has spent one and a half years in Egypt, both studying in Alexandria and working in Cairo, and speaks Egyptian Colloquial Arabic fluently. She has also visited Dubai, and hopes to travel to Lebanon next.
