Hips don’t lie! Get a taste of the glitz and glamour of belly dance while improving fitness, balance and coordination! This course covers both technique and choreography, to give you a technical grounding that can be transferred to any belly dance style, and to get you up and dancing straight away. Rooted in Middle Eastern social dance, belly dance is characterized by rolling undulations and circles, sharp torso and pelvic isolations, and shimmies. You’ll learn how to access and isolate muscles around the hips and torso to create both soft, fluid movements, and stunning sharp hits and locks. Through strengthening exercises, drills, and mini-combinations, you’ll learn how to put this newfound muscle activation into practice. Did we mention it’s a great cardio workout?!
About the Instructor: Jem has a lifelong dance career in many styles of dance including, ballroom, Latin, burlesque and belly dance. Her passion for dance has brought her all over the world teaching and performing in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. She brings a fun easy going attitude to students so they learn quickly, bringing out confidence on the dance floor, while having fun!! Whether you are a beginner or master dancer, Jem can help you learn and advance at any level.
Materials Required: Comfortable exercise clothing and a water bottle.
Suggested Materials: Hip scarf (or regular scarf).
